My dream of becoming an Olympian began in the summer of 1984 while watching the Los Angeles Olympics with my Dad.  I played many sports early on but found my love for running as a teenager.  After a successful high school career, I earned a full athletic scholarship to Villanova University, where I went on to win 5 NCAA individual titles.  My collegiate success set me up to run professionally, and I competed as an adidas sponsored athlete for over 20 years!

After years of hard work (and lots of learning curves along the way!) my dream came true when I made the 2000 US Olympic Team in the 10,000 meter event. I also qualified for 2 additional Olympic Games (Athens 2004 in the marathon & Beijing 2008 in the 5,000 meters). I am proud to be one of only a small handful of athletes to have competed in a different event on each of my 3 Olympic teams.  I always felt that moving up and down in race distance every so often kept training exciting and I believe allowed for me  to have a lengthy career. Contrary to what’s considered to be “normal”, I ran all of my personal bests between the ages of 33 and 36. While aging is a reality for all of us I have always believed that with proper training, nutrition and recovery there’s no reason that these perceived limits of slowing down as we age can’t be challenged.  After turning 40 I set 2 US Masters records and also qualified to represent the US at the 2015 World Cross Country Championships. I attribute this success not only to my good fortune with injuries and good genes, but also to the attention that I paid to the details throughout my career. My interest and self education in nutrition played a huge role in my success as an older athlete.  In 2017 I became a certified Primal Health Coach and I continually educate myself in the ever changing world of nutrition.

Over the years it became very apparent to me how important a proper mindset is in both athletics and in life.  I realized early on the great impact that intention setting and visualization skills could (and did!) have on my race performances.  Along with understanding the importance of a positive mindset in training I also explored more alternative ways to get the most out of my mental game. Throughout my career I found great help form working with both intuitive and energy healing practitioners to not only keep my mind sharp, but also helping me to see what my body needed to maintain its top form from year to year.  Working with these gifted people helped to solidify my belief that both the physical body and human biofield have a major impact on our overall health and wellbeing. I truly believe what they taught me added years to my running career and lit a fire in my mind as what my next steps would be once I was ready to hang up my spikes. The lessons learned from my early teachers ignited my pursuit of an education in medical intuition. I am thrilled to say that I am now a Certified Medical Intuitive Practitioner (CMIP®) through the Practical Path Program.  I am honored to be able to use my intuitive skills to help others navigate the challenges that life brings just as others showed me many years ago. The ability for medical intuition to help not only one’s physical body, but also their emotional and spiritual health I believe is real. I am living proof.

Adidas

I’m fortunate to have been working with Adidas for over 25 years now!  I represented Adidas as a professional athlete for almost 20 years, and I continue on today as a global high performance coach and brand ambassador.  In the spring of 2020 my husband, Terrence Mahon, and I established The Golden Coast Track Club while we were calling San Diego our full time home.  We continue to have our core group of elite athletes but are now splitting our time between San Diego and Flagstaff, AZ.  Our goal of helping athletes to be successful in both in sport and life is still the same, but now we get to enjoy the best of both worlds!
